As an attendee of our conference, you are invited to join us for a private after-hours tour of the National Music Centre, just a block away from the conference venue.

Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre (NMC), is a premier 160,000-square-foot cultural institution located at 850 4th Street SE in Calgary’s Downtown East Village. Designed by Brad Cloepfil of Allied Works Architecture and opened on Canada Day 2016, the $191 million facility rises as nine curved, interlocking towers clad in glazed terra cotta. The structure functions as a performance venue, state-of-the-art recording facility, broadcast studio, and interactive museum built around the fully restored historic King Edward Hotel—Calgary’s legendary blues hub.

The museum spans five interactive floors containing 22 individual exhibition stages. Its vast physical repository encompasses over 8,000 historic pieces mapping out 450 years of music technology and innovation. Visiting artists gain functional access to a “living collection” of 200 fully operational historic instruments.

Notable artifacts permanent to the collection include the legendary Rolling Stones Mobile Recording Studio, Elton John’s songwriting piano, and the massive historic Kimball Theatre Organ situated on the Sound Affects stage.

• Level 1: Features Canada Music Square, a live performance space, alongside introductory interactive displays.
• Level 2: Houses the central 300-seat performance hall equipped with flexible seating and movable acoustic walls.
• Level 3: Home to the Sound Affects stage, the Kimball Theatre Organ, and specialized music workshops.
• Level 4: Focuses on interactive instrument installations (guitars, drums, pianos) where visitors can play, record, and find their vocal range.
• Level 5: Entirely dedicated to celebrating Canadian music history. It acts as the physical home for four major national halls of fame:
  • The Canadian Music Hall of Fame (featuring a major 2026 feature exhibit for inductee Nelly Furtado)
  • The Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame
  • The Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame
